Art exhibition and Talks during Poseidonia 2022

In June 2022, ICC Women Hellas and the Shipping and Arts and Culture Clusters, headed by Irini Veniami and Marilena Koutsoukou, organized ‘NEOMAI’, focusing not only on the broader theme of Women and Shipping, but talking about the individual journey every woman makes in her life, both as a person as well as a professional.

The event consisted of speeches by important women in the Shipping sector, who talked about their professional journey, historian Maria Efthymiou, who spoke about the importance of this theme and the role women played in it, and curator Marilena Koutsoukou, who conceived this inevitable journey through images.

The purpose of the exhibition was to capture a journey – imaginary, real, abstract, realistic, or however one perceives it, while always realizing the deep rooted desire of man to return home.

In the heart of Piraeus, in the historic neighborhood of captains, in a neoclassical building with character and architecture of the previous century, the family of Irini Veniamis gave their ancestral home a new life, restored it and invited art. This home became a house of culture, opening its doors for the first time in years, to a retrospective on the history of shipping, reminiscing but listening to the sea, the journey and the return, allowing 6 amazing artists, Kalliopi Lemos, Chloe Akrithaki, Nikomachi Karakostanoglou, Peggy Kliafa, Anna Fafaliou and Efi Haliori to guide us through their own eyes, to what this journey at sea means to each of them.

The exhibition was a hymn to female creation, an ode to the power of the sea, a tribute to the ancestors of this distinguished residence.
